Funding routes worth knowing
JASSO 海外留学支援制度（学部学位取得型）
EstimateJapan Student Services Organization's degree-seeking scholarship for Japanese citizens taking a full bachelor's abroad.
- Who it's for
- Japanese citizenship, admission to a degree program abroad, academic and income criteria set per cycle. Competitive, apply before departure.
- What it covers
- Monthly stipend and travel support, current figures on the official page.

EstimateMEXT's public-private study-abroad program: funding plus a strong alumni community and pre/post-departure training.
- Who it's for
- Japanese students with a self-designed study plan; cohort windows and criteria change per round, check the current call.
- What it covers
- Stipend and preparation support, exact scope per cohort.

Scandinavia-Japan Sasakawa Foundation
EstimateFoundation grants specifically for exchange between Japan and the Scandinavian countries, a rare Nordics-specific route.
- Who it's for
- Japan-Scandinavia study or research purpose; country branches (SE/DK/NO) run their own calls and deadlines.
- What it covers
- Project and study grants, scope per branch and call.

University tuition waivers & merit scholarships
EstimateMany Danish, Swedish and Finnish universities themselves waive part of the non-EU tuition for strong applicants, Finland does this most systematically.
- Who it's for
- Automatic consideration with your application at most universities, criteria are academic merit. Rules differ per university and program.
- What it covers
- Partial (sometimes full) tuition reduction, never guaranteed, never universal.

Honest warning: the Swedish Institute scholarships you may find online target master's students, not bachelor's, and Erasmus+ funds exchanges within a degree, not the degree itself. Neither replaces the routes above.
